The Mount Pleasant Police Department Disturbance Response Unit (D.R.U.) is comprised of 18 officers. It is one component of the teams within the Racine County Civil Disturbance Operations Initiative.
Since its inception in 2018, the Disturbance Response Unit has been deployed to multiple incidents. The D.R.U. was successfully deployed to the civil unrest events in the City of Kenosha that resulted in massive building loss due to fires and damage to various businesses. The events ended in multiple arrests, and crowds dispersed at their own volition, allowing the city to recover. The team was fortunate to have all personnel deployed into the area and returned to the Village of Mount Pleasant without any injuries.
When deployed, the Disturbance Response Unit always maintains itself as a visible, peaceful presence ready to enforce quality-of-life issues for those involved and the community's interests. Allowing citizens to peacefully gather and demonstrate their freedoms without violence remains an important main focus when the team is deployed. All of the deployments to date have been successful in accomplishing the overall mission.
The Mount Pleasant Disturbance Response Unit remains ready, along with additional elements from other agencies, to ensure the highest level of service to the Village of Mount Pleasant and the residents of the County of Racine.
